Anthem MRX-710 7-channel A/V Receiver Review

If I had to summarize this receiver with just a few words I'd say "simplicity and consistency"... made for those who prefer to enjoy music in it's purest form, without a sea of features and settings to navigate and/or probably disable. That's not to say the MRX-710 doesn't have what you need. It absolutely gives you all you need to build an amazing home theater system. If you're looking to take a great quality 2-channel listening experience and expand it to include movies, this receiver is calling your name. It is excellent for music, but with the added bonus of superb Blu-ray playback. It does all you need to experience excellent Blu-ray playback, and nothing more. And for many "purists" nothing more is desired. I believe Anthem has proven that by investing completely in sound and build quality, they have been able to make one of the best performing A/V receivers on the market above and below it's price.

8 gutsy, feature-packed receivers to get your home theater pumping

The Anthem MRX 710 is not a receiver to be trifled with. More like a set of high-end separates than a receiver, the MRX 710 delivers sound that is as musically satisfying as it is cinematically energizing. Expect eight HDMI inputs and dual HDMI outputs, along with 4K upscaling and pass-through. The 7.1-channel receiver also comes bundled with the Anthem Room Correction System, aka “ARC,” allowing you to professionally calibrate the receiver’s output using an independent USB microphone, microphone stand and a laptop computer. It’s even adorned with a slew of great speaker configuration options and a robust power supply that delivers 120 real-world watts per channel. While not compatible with Dolby Atmos, the MRX 710 remains one of the most sonically-satisfying receivers we’ve ever experienced.

Anthem MRX 710 A/V Receiver

The MRX 710 had a no-nonsense personality that combined a crisp presentation with strong dynamics... The Anthem MRX 710 is a high- performance receiver with state- of-the-art room correction that miraculously does no harm (as the Hippocratic Oath would have it). The underlying amplifier sounds great on its own... the confidently dynamic Anthem sound is one that’ll please the overwhelming majority of listeners.

Anthem’s MRX 710 is about as close to separates as an A/V receiver gets

The flagship of Anthem’s new line is the MRX 710, an absolute powerhouse with some of today’s more critical modern functions and, perhaps more impressively, the best commercially available room-correction rig we’ve ever used (and we’ve used them all). Essentially, the MRX 710 is about as close as you can get to separates in an A/V receiver.

Anthem MRX 710 AV Receiver Review - The best just got better

We often wonder how Anthem are able to deliver such a performance at this price point and once again the Canadian manufacturer has managed to surprise us... The MRX 710 is, quite simply, the best sounding AV receiver we have reviewed to date and is therefore the reference point against which all the other receivers will be compared.

Anthem MRX 710 7.1 A/V Receiver

“Anthem continues their tradition of offering tremendous value for the dollar in their second-generation MRX A/V receivers. The MRX 710 sounds fantastic with both movies and music. The receiver is so much easier and faster to configure thanks to the network interface that Anthem has incorporated into the updated ARC 1M Room Correction System. The user interface redesign and enhanced features in the ARC-2 software are awesome and the software is included with every MRX receiver at no extra charge. If you are looking for a new receiver, make sure you visit an Anthem dealer and check out the second-generation MRX receivers. I give both the Anthem Room Correction system and the MRX 710 my highest recommendation.”

Anthem Performance MRX 710 A/V Receiver: King of the Sonic Frontiers

... the Anthem receiver was equally at home providing accurate sound for the audiophile, and the necessary switching, decoding, and picture quality demanded by the home-theater enthusiast... If sound quality is your primary purchasing criterion, then the Performance MRX 710 should be at the top of your list. Even if you have an MRX 700, the MRX 710’s “1M” improvements in ARC and the Advanced Load Monitoring are enough reasons to upgrade.

Anthem MRX 710 AV Receiver

“…if pure audio performance is what you're looking for, if you're itching for a surround sound receiver that performs shockingly well with five channels tied behind its back when you're listening to stereo sources, or if you're hunting for an AV receiver that would also make for an amazing (not to mention affordable) preamp when your budget allows, I can't encourage you enough to audition the MRX 710.”

Best of 2013 Award

Home Theater Review's Best of 2013 Awards

Anthem's newest top-shelf receiver almost failed to make our 2013 list - not because its performance is lacking in any way but because it's so new, the review almost didn't make the 2013 schedule. The full-length review will post very soon, but here's a hint: The new MRX 710 delivers the sound quality we loved in its predecessor but with even better room correction and custom integration.
